Lighting strongly affects our life and there is a lot of issues showing up during the design process. Learn about lighting types, lighting scenarios, light layers and how to arrange lighting.

Lighting scenarios

Lighting strongly affects our life and there is a lot of issues showing up during the design process.

It affects:

  • Emotions (both positive and negative) are felt more intensely under the bright light

  • Excessive light at night, including electronic media, can create difficulties sleeping and exacerbate sleeping disorders

  • Students and workers are healthier, happier, and more productive when there is more natural light (daylighting)

  • The right lighting temperature helps to produce vitamin D1

 

When you design the space create lighting scenarios according to lifestyle and space purpose of your client. Imagine his day and how can he use the lighting. It is important to note the height of lighting fixtures for different areas, its direction, temperature, etc. Lighting design is a combination of good looking and functionality.

Possible scenarios

  • Clowdy day

  • Evening bright light

  • Evening cozy light

  • Reading light

  • Kitchen light

Lighting Design Layers

  • General or Ambient Lighting makes an interior space visible. It might be chandelier, track lights, LED lights

  • Task Lighting works in a specific area. It might be reading lamp, cooking, sewing, drawing lamps, etc

  • Accent Lighting works for a accents, gives more details to art pieces,decoration or plants

Temperature and height

Flame and warm white is good for bedroom, cozy cafes as an aditional layer. Create calm and inviting atmosphere. Neutral white has a daylight temperature. It fits well for reading and stydying, and for ambient lighting as well. Today neutral white is the most common solution for every type of lamps. Cold white is nice for business spaces. It helps to focus and stay energetic.

The light diffuses according to the heiht. An example, if you are using pendant lamp with a standard bulb - every 1 m the lighting strengt will be decreased twice. If you have a 4m ceiling use more strong lamps or put your lamp on the lower level.

How to arrange lighting

To arrange ligting you can also use bubble diagram - draw lighting areas on floor plan using Room Planner plus any graphic editor you have.  Also save the 2d lighting plan from Room Planner. Click to the ceiling - Open 2D plan.

Room Planner lighting settings

To set lighting there is a 2 options:

  1. Click lighting - Properties

    • Lights on regulates if the light is turned or not on the rendering

    • Intensity regulates how bright will be the light soure on your final image

    • You can set the Kelvin temperature

    • You can also set the size, rotation and distance from ceiling for your lamp

  2. Rendering properties

    • You can use predesigned ligting sets like Morning,Day,Evening,etc

    • You can set advansed options like Brightness, Color Temperature, Sun Position, Sun Height
